Upgrading Your PSP

You should only be reading this page because you need to run Flash and your operating system version is older than 2.70. For further information on how to find out the version of the PSP operating system you have, go to the 'Getting started' page of this site.

WARNING. If you upgrade your operating system it may prevent you running so called 'Home Brew' versions of software. Please be sure to check this for yourself on the official Sony websites (this is NOT an official Sony website). Do not upgrade unless you are fully informed.

DISCLAIMER. Things can go wrong when upgrading your PSP. This is merely an information site that helps you understand one way to undertake the process. You are the one pressing the buttons though, so be careful to read the official Sony sites to get the full background information before beginning. We accept no financial or other responsibility.

STEP 1. Find NETWORK UPDATE on the top level menu of your PSP, then press enter.

You will probably see a message "YOU MUST CREATE A NETWORK CONNECTION TO CONTINUE." If you already have a network connection setup, then connect. If not, go to the page on this website called 'Connecting your PSP to the internet'.

STEP 2. Once you have a connection, you will see a message telling you that a file is being downloaded onto your memory card. This can take anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes, depending upon connection speed.

Once the file is downloaded, another instruction tells you how to run it. As soon as this is done, and you accept the terms and conditions, your system restarts - but is now running the new firmware version - probably 3.11 A final message tells you that you can now delete the downloaded file from your memory card.

STEP 3. You can now follow the next step in preparing your PSP to run SUMS software - probably 'Enabling Flash on your PSP'.
